What is a Physiatrist?

Most medical specialists focus on diagnosing and treating specific organs or parts of the body.

A physiatrist, by comparison, deals with whole body function and diagnoses the cause of a patient's disability.

He or she understands the impact of a changing medical condition on various disabilities and treats patients with medication, performs necessary procedures and prescribes prostheses, orthotics and various therapies for patients to maximize function, quality of life and independence.

An important part of other specialties is diagnosis. A physiatrist's greatest challenge is to restore the patient to optimal functioning.

Our rewards are through patient success. Our patients regain self-respect and functional independence.
