Our equipment includes MRI, ultrasound, mammography and CT scans that allow us to record your health, diagnose the problem and plan treatment for you.

We also provide PET/CT scanning at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.

Our Services

We provide state-of-the-art technology and high quality care in diagnosing, evaluating and treating medical conditions on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

We offer a full-range of comprehensive diagnostic imaging services, using the most advanced technology and highly skilled radiologists to help detect, prevent and treat diseases.

We also use a Picture Archival Communications System (PACS) that sends exam images electronically to radiologists, thus providing our patients with faster results.

What We Offer Patients

MaineGeneral offers the following advantages for its patients:

  • Cutting-edge diagnostic equipment that includes PET/CT, MRI, ultrasound, digital mammography, CT scanning and DEXA bone density scanning

  • Convenience of Services. With several imaging sites in the Kennebec Valley region, our staff can schedule you fast and get you in and out quickly.

Our Commitment to You

Early disease detection is essential to successful treatment and recovery.

Our imaging technology advancements help physicians treat patients with interventional approaches that can sometimes replace surgical procedures and shorten recoveries.

Doctors can better detect disease or injury through MaineGeneral's significant investment in specialized equipment, which includes:

Multislice CT scanning

MaineGeneral Medical Center's (MGMC) Alfond Center for Health and Thayer Center for Health both have 64-slice CT scanners. These scanners are equipped with dose reduction software and hardware designed to reduce the amount of radiation.

The 64-slice scanners are especially adept at screening for or detecting cardiac disease or damage.

The state-of-the-art technology provides doctors with high-resolution images in a fraction of the time previously required, allowing them to accurately diagnose more patient conditions.

Digital mammography

Digital mammography is good for all women but is particularly helpful in detecting abnormalities in women with dense breasts.

It takes about 15 minutes and gives physicians a better breast image while providing patients quicker service, less discomfort, reduced time in the department and less radiation exposure.

Bone density screenings

Early detection also is important for patients who may be at risk for osteoporosis.

Bone density scans can detect bone loss in patients still able to make lifestyle changes to slow disease progression.

Our doctors use an enhanced form of X-ray called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Quick and painless, DEXA measures the lower spine and hips. It is the established standard for measuring bone mineral density.

This service is available in Augusta, Oakland, Waterville and Winthrop. It will soon be available in Gardiner as well.
