Grief is a natural emotional, physical and spiritual process in response to loss.

MaineGeneral Hospice is dedicated to helping you on this journey with comfort and compassion, and by honoring your unique values and beliefs.

Bereavement Groups

MaineGeneral Hospice offers free bereavement groups in the Augusta/Gardiner area.

Free groups are offered by Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area and Hospice Volunteers of Somerset County to hospice and community members in the Waterville and Skowhegan areas.

Annual memorial services are offered for hospice families in each service area.

Family/Caregiver Support

MaineGeneral Hospice bereavement services are offered for 13 months to families and caregivers of our hospice patients.

Services are offered in many ways, including:
  • Bereavement phone calls during the first 13 months after the death of a loved one.
  • A bereavement correspondence program to support your family throughout the first year. Information on grief, readings and self-care ideas are included. Many people find these mailings comforting.
  • Bereavement counselors who offer short-term, one-on-one counseling to your loved ones, providing private, personalized care. Counseling may be in person or by phone.
  • Bereavement workshops during special times of year, such as grief and the holidays, Valentine's Day and Coping with Mother's & Father's Day.
