Cancer Resource Center

Patients and families with a new cancer diagnosis have many questions.

The Resource Center at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care can provide some of the answers.

Co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society and MaineGeneral Health, the Resource Center is a place where patients, family members, caregivers and the public can find the latest cancer information.

Trained volunteers will assist visitors in locating information about prevention and detection, treatments, side effects, clinical trials, local community resources and support groups.

In addition, the center has books, American Cancer Society pamphlets and other items to support and educate cancer patients and their caregivers.

The center is staffed by volunteers and is open during regular hours at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.

Help also is available Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through MaineGeneral Medical Center's librarians or the MaineGeneral web site.

To reach a librarian, please call (207) 626-1325 in Augusta or (207) 872-1224 in Waterville.

In addition, the American Cancer Society is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by calling toll-free (800) 227-2345 or visiting the ACS web site.
