MaineGeneral's SMART Program
Sports Medicine Access Response Team
SMART is the only program of its kind in Maine, helping athletes and active people of all ages, skill levels and interests get the care they need. SMART was created to help answer questions about your sports-related injury, give you direct access to an appointment with one of our excellent sports medicine physicians or provide you with information about injuries that active people experience.

We serve athletes of all ages and types:
• Competitive (youth, middle school, high school, collegiate)
• Recreational (weekend warrior, adult leagues, rec leagues, pickleball players, skiers, etc.)
• Performing artists (dance, music, theater, drama)
• Outdoor sports/recreation (hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing)
• Martial arts
Head-SMART
Head-SMART is MaineGeneral’s sports-related concussion program. It offers:
• Comprehensive, physician-driven assessment of concussions
• Concussion-management strategies that meet or exceed all Maine state law requirements
• Exceptional occupational and physical therapy services through MaineGeneral Outpatient Rehabilitation Services - for those who need more advanced comprehensive care as they recover from their concussion and begin to work toward getting back to activity
V-SMART
MaineGeneral Sports Medicine also offers a virtual SMART program, called V-SMART, to better serve our patients and communities. V-SMART allows for online access to our SMART services anywhere in Maine!
