Addiction Medicine

The department of Addiction Medicine at MaineGeneral Health welcomes all patients 18 and older seeking treatment for their substance use disorder.

Our core philosophy is based heavily on the principles of harm reduction, and we feel strongly that treating patients with dignity and respect leads to a better treatment experience and better patient outcomes.

We approach our daily work with this in the forefront of our minds.

Since opening in February 2021, we have been providing compassionate, evidence-based care for the treatment of substance use disorder to the members of our community. Although we have touched many lives, there is still such a great need for these services. We are working hard, every day, to expand our reach.

Please give our office a call. Our addiction medicine physicians will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that focuses on diagnosis, treatment, and relapse prevention.

Individualized treatment plans are developed through one-on-one appointments with your medical staff. Treatment plans may include:

  • Medications for the treatment of substance use disorder including long-acting injectable medications (ie Vivitrol, Sublocade)
  • Individual Counseling
  • Recovery Groups
  • Patient Navigator Support

Medication-Assisted Treatment for Substance Use Disorder

For many people who are addicted to alcohol and/or other drugs, overcoming an addiction is one of the most challenging experiences they will have.

Without professional help, you can remain in the vicious cycle of substance use, unable to break free from this potentially lethal circumstance.

If you have previously been unable to overcome your chemical dependency, proper treatment can help you so you can experience the healthier life you deserve.

Medication-assisted treatment is one of the most effective and life-changing forms of treatment that can help people overcome the compulsion to engage in substance abuse.
