Description

- Environmental conditions can be an extremely dangerous situation in the world of sports medicine. In athletics, our athletes are often times exposed to harsh elements and they may not be equipped or acclimated to handle the stresses that these environmental conditions can put on their bodies. As Athletic Trainers, it is easy to overlook these dangerous conditions as our focus often times is centered on orthopedic injuries. In addition, these environmental conditions are often times seasonal, making re-occurring training and education necessary.

- By participating in this course, viewers will learn how to detect and prevent various types of heat and cold conditions/injuries as well as proper and necessary treatment for these conditions. After this program, participants will also be able to determine when these conditions progress from conservative treatment to an emergency situation. Athletic Trainers specifically will also gain knowledge in how to equip themselves to cover events in harsh environmental situations.

MaineGeneral Sports Medicine & Colby College Sports Medicine offer Heat Illness and Hypothermia.
