- Athletic trainers frequently encounter athletes with respiratory, metabolic, skeletal, and dermatologic conditions, yet many clinicians report limited recent continuing education on updated best practices for identifying and managing these conditions in active populations. Rapid developments in asthma management guidelines, diabetes monitoring technologies, bone health awareness, and infectious skin condition protocols have created a gap between emerging evidence and routine clinical practice.
- Athletic trainers play a critical role in the early recognition, monitoring, and management of common medical conditions affecting athlete well-being. Applying current evidence-based practices for exercise-induced bronchospasm, diabetes management, bone health optimization, and dermatologic condition control can significantly improve athlete safety, reduce complications, and support optimal athletic performance.
- This program addresses the need for practical, evidence-based strategies that allow athletic trainers to recognize risk factors, implement appropriate management strategies, and facilitate safe participation for athletes with these types of conditions.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:
• Define EIB.
• Recall diagnostic criteria for EIB and asthma.
• Perform treatment of EIB and asthma.
• Review the effect of exercise on glucose levels.
• Review signs and symptoms of hypo- and hyperglycemia and their management.
• Identify various diabetic devices used for glucose monitoring and insulin delivery.
• Identify common skin conditions athletes.
• State basic skin condition management and best treatment management in team sport/communal settings.
• Identify at risk conditions/nutrition deficits that may predispose athletes to poor bone health as well as understanding the natural cycle of bone health as we age.
• Recall basic nutritional intake to promote bone health/first lines of defense in improving bone health.
