- As sports participation intensifies during the middle and high school years, overuse injuries such as Achilles tendinopathy are becoming more prevalent in this age group. Adolescent athletes require specialized care that takes into account growth and development. Achilles tendinopathy in youth can be misdiagnosed or overlooked, especially in early stages, leading to delayed treatment and long-term consequences such as altered gait, compensation injuries, or chronic pain.
- By participating in this course, the viewer will explore the unique anatomical and physiological considerations in adolescents, including growth plate involvement, differential diagnosis, and how early intervention can prevent chronic issues. Participants will learn current best practices in conservative treatment, load monitoring, and sport-specific rehabilitation strategies tailored to the developing athlete and methods to implement these techniques in a clinical setting.
MaineGeneral Sports Medicine & Colby College Sports Medicine offer Evaluation and Management of Achilles Tendinopathy in Adolescents.
