Already preparing to graduate?

MaineGeneral has a number of Earn to Learn opportunities, where you get trained for great careers and get paid while you learn and train.

We currently offer four Earn to Learn programs:

  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
  • Medical Assistant (MA)
  • Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA)

Benefits of the Earn to Learn training programs include:

  • Get paid while you learn in the classroom and on the job
  • Hands-on experience and in-depth training
  • Preparation for state certification exams, leading to great career opportunities

Are You a Student Exploring a Career in Health Care?

We have many ways for you to connect with us.

Career Exploration Day

Each spring, we invite area high school students to a half-day program to get exposed to a variety of topics about health care careers at MaineGeneral.

Students get to tour the Alfond Center for Health, participate in activities, talk to current staff across different clinical and support departments, and learn what they do day-to-day in their roles.

Future Scrubs Club

Each Summer, we invite local high school students to join us for two days filled with activities to peak interest in health care jobs.

As part of the Future Scrubs Club, students have access to:

  • Interactive Experience - Dive into health care through workshops, facility tours and shadowing opportunities, getting a feel for the environment.
  • Professional Insights - Engage with experienced practitioners from nursing, lab sciences and potentially other areas. Gain insights into employees' daily roles, the challenges they face and the passion they bring to their work.
  • Hands-On and Exploratory - Participate in activities that simulate real health care scenarios, understanding the skills and dedication required in the field, without breaching patient confidentiality.
  • Networking and Mentorship - Build connections with health care professionals, exploring pathways to future careers in health care through discussion and mentorship.
  • Spark Interest in Health Care Careers: Get an introduction to the possibilities within the health care sector can inspire you to pursue these vital professions.

Student Observer Program

If you are age 16 or older, you can join our Student Observer Program.

  • Discover your passion - Explore options and find a career that excites you
  • Hands-on insight - Experience how teams work together to make a difference in people's lives
  • Learn from experts - While you observe the work, ask questions and get advice from professionals
  • Get a head start on your resume - Colleges and future employers want to see real-world experience and initiative

What to Expect

  • Shadow teams - Up to 24 hours per academic semester
  • Sponsor match - You'll be with an expert professional throughout your time at MaineGeneral
  • Available areas - Access a variety of departments and practices, in clinical and non-clinical settings
  • Access to the latest technology and care - Learn the best health care and professional practices and standards and walk away with great insights and career goals.

This program is for students age 16 and older (high school or college/tech schools).
