MaineCare Changes Coming

Due to the federal budget law (H.R. 1) passed last year, eligibility requirements for Maine’s Medicaid (MaineCare) are changing for some MaineCare members. The State is mailing notification letters to all impacted residents. These changes include:

  • October 1, 2026 – Some adult noncitizens will have their MaineCare coverage discontinued. This impacts 125 MaineGeneral patients.
  • January 1, 2027 – Those with coverage through the expansion categories are required to follow work requirements to maintain their coverage. We do not yet know how many MaineGeneral patients will be impacted.
