I came to homecare after 30 years of nursing at MaineGeneral Medical Center. What a refreshing change in my nursing career!
I love the multidisciplinary approach of caring for patients in their homes. I have great support from managers, nurses, therapists and office support staff.
A challenging but rewarding aspect of this job is being able to focus on patients, one-on-one in their homes, involve families and community resources to improve clinical outcomes and decrease the need for hospitalization and emergent care.
I recently became certified in chronic care management, which is a great tool to help patients learn to manage their illness in their own environment.
For me, nursing has been the right balance of a respectable profession, educational opportunities and satisfaction to help make improvements in a patient’s life.
