Medical Staff & Management Team



John T. Bielecki, MD, MPH
Medical Director

Dr. Bielecki is medical director for MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Workplace Health department and specializes in occupational and environmental medicine. He is board certified in family medicine as well as occupational and environmental medicine. Dr. Bielecki is transitioning from the role of medical director and will be replaced by Dr. Nelson Haas, who joined the Workplace Health team in early December 2014.

A certified medical review officer for drug and alcohol testing and a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) certified medical examiner, Dr. Bielecki also serves as medical director for the medical department for Sappi Fine Paper's Somerset plant. He has practiced locally since 1989.

Nelson S. Haas, MD, MPH, FACOEM
Medical Director

Dr. Haas is a board-certified occupational medicine physician who has practiced in the occupational health field since 2001. He is assuming the position of medical director for Workplace Health.

A member of MGMC's active staff since December 2014, Dr. Haas is a certified medical review officer for drug and alcohol testing and a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) / FMCSA-certified medical examiner. Before joining the Workplace Health team, Dr. Haas served as director of the North Star Occupational Medicine Clinic in Newport, VT.

Raymond H. Hicks, MD, MSc, MPH

Dr. Hicks is an occupational and environmental health physician at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Workplace Health department.

A member of MGMC's active staff, he established his practice locally in February 2014.


Kenneth R. McKenzie, MD

Dr. McKenzie is an occupational medicine physician for Workplace Health.
With more than 13 years of experience in occupational medicine, his background includes urgent care, emergency and sports medicine.

Dr. McKenzie has a specialty certification in sports medicine, is an FMCSA-certified medical examiner, and is also a travel medicine provider for Workplace Health. He established his practice in this area in 2007


Susan L. Cruz, NP

Ms. Cruz is an occupational health nurse practitioner at Workplace Health. She is a FMCSA-certified medical examiner and also is a travel medicine provider.

She earned her advanced nursing degree from Columbia University School of Nursing and was employed by Georgetown University Hospital's Employee Health Service before joining MaineGeneral's Professional Services Staff in April 2010.


Mr. LaBrecque is a physician assistant with MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Workplace Health department.

Prior to joining Workplace Health he was employed by MGMC as a physician assistant in the Emergency Department at the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. He is a member of MGMC's Professional Services Staff.


Vishnu Nancoo, NP, APRN

Mr. Nancoo is an occupational health nurse practitioner employed by MaineGeneral's Workplace Health department.

A member of MaineGeneral Medical Center's Professional Services Staff, he was employed by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard before joining Workplace Health in 2014.

Kevin Ward, APRN, RN, COHN-S
 Associate Medical Director

Mr. Ward is an occupational health nurse practitioner and the associate medical director for Workplace Health, as well as an FMCSA-certified medical examiner.

A nurse manager with clinical and administrative expertise in the areas of workers compensation and short-term disability, Mr. Ward joined the Workplace Health staff in 2007.

Workplace Health Director

Ms. Dumont-Bernier is director of Workplace Health and is responsible for overseeing Workplace Health clinics in Augusta and Waterville; customer and business relationships; and worksite contracted services.

She received her bachelor's degree from Simmons College, Boston, MA and has more than 19 years experience providing and managing occupational health and industrial rehabilitation for many recognizable Maine employers.

She serves on Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company's (MEMIC) Medical Advisory Board and is on the planning committee for the annual Northern New England Ergonomics Symposium.
