Medical Staff & Management Team



John Bielecki, MD, MPH
Medical Director

Dr. Bielecki is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine and completed a residency in family practice at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Board certified in family practice and occupational and environmental medicine, Dr. Bielecki holds a master's degree in public health from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and also has an engineering degree from Tufts University. He is a certified medical review officer for regulated substance abuse testing.

Dr. Bielecki is certified in Maine to perform IME's for workers' compensation cases. He also provides consultations and second opinions. He is a founding member of the Maine Institute for Occupational Health Education and serves on the advisory board of the Harvard Educational Resource Center, Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Bielecki is recognized throughout Maine as one of the state's top occupational medicine experts.


Ken McKenzie, MD
Staff Physician

Dr. McKenzie earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ. He completed his residency in family medicine at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

In addition to occupational medicine, Dr. McKenzie's background includes family, urgent care, emergency and sports medicine. He has a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in sports medicine, which is equivalent to board certification in that subspecialty.

Before joining the Workplace Health staff, Dr. McKenzie was president and medical director of Metuchen Health Care Associates, a multidisciplinary practice in musculoskeletal and sports medicine in New Jersey.


Robert Meyer, MD
Staff Physician

Dr. Meyer received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University and completed his internship and residency at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI.

With many years of experience as a physician and medical director in occupational and emergency medicine, Dr. Meyer is well known to Maine employers. One of his specialties is medical surveillance (medical and work histories, physical assessment and biological testing to meet OSHA requirements).

Dr. Meyer is board certified in occupational and environmental medicine as well as internal medicine.


Susan L. Cruz, NP
Adult Nurse Practitioner

Susan Cruz earned her advanced nursing degree from Columbia University School of Nursing and has worked as a nurse practitioner in a variety of occupational health settings since 1998.

She was employed by Georgetown University Hospital's Employee Health Service before joining MaineGeneral's Workplace Health staff in April 2010.



Gerald Hussar, PA-C, ATC
Physician Assistant

Jerry Hussar earned his bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA and graduated from the physician assisant program at Milton S. Hershey Medical School in Hershey, PA.

He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and also is a certified athletic trainer.

In addition to occupational health, he has years of experience in orthopedics, rheumatology, family practice and emergency medicine services.



Kevin Ward

Nurse Practitioner &
Associate Medical Director

Kevin Ward is Workplace Health's occupational and environmental health nurse practitioner and associate medical director. He manages Workplace Health's clinical nursing and tech staff and also treats patients in Augusta and Waterville.

Kevin's occupational medicine expertise includes a long history of working with employers, including managing the employee health department of Fortune 500 organizations, to reduce lost work days due to work-related injuries and illnesses. He is a member of the Workplace Health management team.


Denise Dumont-Bernier, PT

Denise received her bachelor's degree from Simmons College, Boston, MA. She has more than 19 years experience providing and managing occupational health and industrial rehabilitation for many recognizable Maine employers.

Denise serves on Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company's (MEMIC) Medical Advisory Board and is on the planning committee for the annual Northern New England Ergonomics Symposium.

She is responsible for overseeing Workplace Health clinics in Augusta and Waterville; customer and business relationships; and worksite contracted services.
