There are several aspects that make the services at the Physical Rehabilitation Unit unique. These include:
- Phase Out: Patients and their families are asked to do as much for themselves as possible while still in the rehabilitation unit.
We try to simulate a home environment and ask patients to phone for medications, gather their own clothing, bathe, get around the unit and do all of their activities of daily living.
We want to see if problems will occur so that our staff can address them before discharge.
- Rehab Gardens: The Rehab Garden at the Alfond Center for Health allows patients to plant seeds, care for plants and maintain flower beds as part of their therapy. Our horticulture program is outstanding and the gardens are healing for all.
Team Meetings: We hold weekly team meetings for all patients to discuss barriers to discharge, patient progress and patient goals for the coming week. We work together as a team for the best outcome of the patient.
Pet Therapy: Patients enjoy visits from our certified pet therapy dog, who visits the rehab unit on a regular basis. Patients may enjoy visits from their own pets once the proper shot records are verified by our staff.
Specialty Trained Staff and Certifications: The Physicial Rehab Unit has specialty trained staff in stroke rehabilitation, lymphedema, swalling test and treatments, cancer care, vision deficits, wound care, treatment of brain injury and spinal cord injuries, to mention just a few.
