Chronic Hemodialysis treatment is available in our dialysis unit at MaineGeneral's Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. Acute dialysis, either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, is available at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta.
Both units are staffed with highly skilled dialysis nurses and other professionals who provide the best in dialysis services.
- Home Hemodialysis. There are several home hemodialysis options that provide flexibility and convenience.
Home hemodialysis is well known to be associated with better health outcomes as well as improved quality of life.
Patients are provided with state-of-the-art equipment along with training and support from a physician and dialysis nurse to ensure safety and comfort while they perform their treatments at home.
- Peritoneal Dialysis. We offer peritoneal dialysis which allows some patients to receive treatment safely and conveniently at home as well.
Our nephrologists work with specially trained nurses to provide the education, support and medical services patients need to receive this treatment.
- Kidney Disease Education. Our nurses and physicians teach patients about functions of the kidney, chronic kidney disease, dialysis treatments and choices.
- Interventional Nephrology Procedures are tests to diagnose and treat problems with hemodialysis access including arteriovenious fistibulars, arteriovenious grafts and catheters.
