RVSP's Thresholds and Decisions program teaches a five-step decision-making model to inmates who are within a few month of their release.
To make good decisions, people must:
- See the situation clearly
- Know what they want
- Expand the possibilities
- Evaluate and decide
- Act
Core Beliefs
The Thresholds and Decisions program is based on a philosophy of core beliefs that:
- People can change
- All people are unique, important and irreplaceable
- Attitude and self-image make people who they are
Thresholds and Decisions has had a proven record of success in New Hampshire and Vermont since 1994.
A direct result of this program has been a decrease in recidivism (returning to jail) from 50 percent among the general inmate population to 14 percent among Thresholds program graduates.
The key to success is trained volunteers who want to see people become responsible, productive members of society.
About the Program
The Thresholds program is broken down into a two-part format. Two or three volunteers teach a "macro" or group session once a week and additional volunteers teach "micro" or one-to-one sessions.
Training, support and materials are provided by HealthReach RSVP. At the end of each program, a "graduation" is held for the inmates to celebrate the completion of the program.
Through their involvement in the program, Thresholds graduates have the opportunity to create better lives for themselves and a safer, more productive community for us all.
