MaineGeneral's cardiovascular care program specializes in providing high-level, invasive and non-invasive diagnostic testing through our cardiac catheterization lab and a variety of highly advanced technological procedures.
Our Services We offer diagnostic testing and procedures, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac catheterization, heart health education and exercise programs.
At MaineGeneral, we employ cutting-edge digital ultrasound in echocardiology to evaluate heart function.
Our programs and services include:
- Digital echocardiography with 3-D capability, which uses sound waves to examine heart function
- Stress testing (exercise EKGs), which looks at how a patient's heart performs when active, in conjunction with digital ultrasound or nuclear imaging studies
- EKGs (electrocardiograms), which study the heart's action through electric impulses and detects abnormal rhythms, damage to the heart muscle, decreased blood flow to the heart and other problems
- 24-hour Holter monitors (for portable EKGs), which attach to the patient's chest and are used to record heart performance during a 24-hour period
- 30-day event monitors, which allow physicians and staff to evaluate a patient's heart rhythm over a 30-day period
