Breastfeeding Promotion

Breast milk fosters optimal growth and development of a baby's brain, immune system and general physiology.

It is vital in preventing common illnesses, especially diarrhea and infections of the respiratory tract (including pneumonia), ear and urinary tract.

The Prevention Center at MGMC promotes breastfeeding to increase initiation and duration rates in our service area.

We focus on three major areas to promote breastfeeding:

  • Baby-Friendly Hospital
  • Mother-Friendly Worksite Initiative
  • Social marketing campaign

Program Goals

  • To reduce childhood obesity and illness
  • To increase support of breastfeeding by the worksite culture
  • To increase the breastfeeding duration rate beyond six months
  • To decrease health care use by mother and child
